Community Change Initiative (CCI) Strengthens Public Health Awareness Through Second Cholera Prevention Outreach in Abuja
Abuja, Nigeria – June 8, 2026 – The Community Change Initiative (CCI) has successfully conducted the second phase of its Cholera Awareness Campaign at Umer Bin Khattab Academy, reinforcing efforts to promote public health education and cholera prevention among young people in Nigeria.
The outreach programme, held on Monday, June 8, 2026, brought together pupils and students for an engaging and informative session focused on increasing awareness about cholera, a highly contagious waterborne disease that continues to pose significant public health challenges in many communities.
Educating Students on Cholera Prevention
During the cholera awareness outreach, health educators and volunteers from CCI provided comprehensive information on:
- What cholera is and how it affects the human body.
- Common signs and symptoms of cholera.
- How cholera spreads through contaminated food and water.
- Effective cholera prevention measures, including proper handwashing, drinking clean water, safe food handling, and maintaining good environmental hygiene.
The session aimed to equip students with practical knowledge that will help them protect themselves, their families, and their communities from cholera outbreaks.
Interactive Learning and Practical Demonstrations
A major highlight of the programme was the interactive question-and-answer session, which encouraged students to actively participate and deepen their understanding of cholera prevention and personal hygiene.
Participants also took part in practical demonstrations on proper handwashing techniques, an essential step in preventing the transmission of infectious diseases. To encourage participation and reward learning, small gifts were distributed to students who actively engaged during the session.
Promoting Community Health Through Awareness
Speaking during the outreach, representatives of the Community Change Initiative (CCI) emphasized the importance of health education and community engagement in reducing the spread of cholera and other preventable diseases.
They encouraged students to become advocates for good hygiene practices by sharing the knowledge gained with their families, friends, and neighbours.
The Cholera Awareness Campaign forms part of CCI’s broader mission to improve public health outcomes through education, awareness, and community-driven action. By empowering young people with accurate health information, the organization aims to contribute to healthier and safer communities across Nigeria.
Building a Cholera-Free Future
As Nigeria continues to strengthen efforts against cholera outbreaks, initiatives such as this community health outreach programme play a vital role in promoting disease prevention and fostering a culture of cleanliness and responsibility.
Through sustained awareness, improved hygiene practices, and collective community action, cholera can be prevented and lives can be protected.
Together, we can prevent cholera through awareness, cleanliness, and community action.
